"Who would say that pleasure is not useful?" -Charles Eames
The Eames House
I wanted to wait until this blogpost to share the extreme happiness and excitement I felt about having purchased my first chair ever. I know I make it sound like buying chairs is on every 22-year old's bucketlist but man, let me tell you. The feeling mimics well that of accomplishment!

I've only recently gotten into interiors. Meaning, I've been following stalking blogs of the like but I digress. When my sister and I moved in to our apartment in May last year, we came with nothing but suitcases of clothes and shoes and just a box of hand-me-down cutlery and dishware from our mom. Since then however, we've slowly picked up a few things from second-hand shops and friends to fill-up our tiny space. We've forbidden ourselves from buying any more furniture because we know how inconvenient it'll be to rid off when we decide to move.

Well, uhmm, my chair is something I will never rid off. I will bring it with me wherever.

"How much do you think an office chair costs?" was the intro of the first time I heard of Herman Miller from a friend who was in the process of transforming his bedroom to his office space. Strangely, the topic on chairs piqued my interest enough to have a browse of the online catalogue. Then I realised, to every cheek its own. I know from this point to about the next 10 years, I wouldn't (and couldn't) pay $1,500 for an office chair.

BUT when something so ridiculously good an offer comes your way, like this second-hand dowel-leg Eames Molded Plastic Armchair, you are an idiot to pass it up! It goes for as much as 56,000 JPY at dealerships here and well, well I bought mine from a small neighborhood furniture store for a little less than half the original price!

My gut jumped at the instinct it was the real deal but along the way was swayed to thinking it's a replica (hence the Instagram caption). Thankfully, after some post-purchase due research online (Thanks, Chuvanessand a couple trips to Eames chair dealerships here in Nagoya,  I can breathe a huge sigh of relief! Eames chairs are matte and not glossy. Ergo I am a proud second owner of an Eames chair!

Call it a bargain, luck or plain good fortune but I call it destiny (lol). I will sit, write, eat and sleep on this chair.

Meanwhile, here are some fabulous interiors decked with Eames chairs for some inspiration.
